The Chiavarina was created in 1807 by a carpenter from Chiavari, Italy. Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi reformulated some of the French Empire style chairs by simplifying the decorative elements and by emphasizing the structural features. The chair was such a success that soon after many factories opened in Chiavari and neighbouring towns. The Chiavarina became a world icon and it is still used today in noble and important events. Bessa has redesigned this piece, adding back the French decorative elements in a hand-carved handle. The chair gains a new, more contemporary look, while preserving its roots.
